PEACEHAVEN LIBRARY SERVICE

25th November 2021

< Back to news

from the MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle

On the 21st of October East Sussex County Council announced via a press release that the Meridian Centre Library in Peacehaven would be closing. This was done without any consultation with me as your MP or with Peacehaven Cllr Chris Collier or Telscombe Cllr Christine Robinson who represent you on East Sussex County Council.

We have been offered a temporary site at ‘The Joff’ youth centre, this will mean a huge reduction in size, which will inevitably result in a cut in service. The County Council is essentially offering us a storage cupboard with some book shelves in it.

They haven’t told us where they plan to put the 14 computers in the current library or any of the work stations. Libraries are more than just books they are a vital community resource, especially in this new digital, work from home age.

We have invited the County Council to Peacehaven for a public meeting so residents can be consulted on the change and you can have an opportunity to make your voices heard

Sunday 28th of November 2021

2:30pm till 3:30pm

The Main Hall

Meridian Centre, Meridian Way, Peacehaven, BN10 8BB

The Library which serves both Peacehaven and Telscombe should be a priority for the County Council, our towns have growing populations yet our services seem to be declining.

I hope you will be able to join me at the public meeting to make it clear this proposal is unacceptable.
