Mayor’s Chosen Charities

Sussex Heart Charity

Since 1987 they have supported all levels of care for cardiac patients in Sussex.

From producing patient information, introducing new standards of care, purchasing innovative medical equipment and a long list of community-based projects.

They have worked tirelessly to raise funds to help ensure that the journey cardiac patients undertake through hospital and their recovery is as efficient and effective as possible.

Over the years they have helped install over 300 life-saving Automated External Defibrillators across both East and West Sussex. These devices safeguard lives and give the best chance of survival after a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

ABC Fund

The Anne Bickmore Children’s Fund was founded in 1991 with the aim of encouraging youngsters to raise funds for less privileged children.

The abcfund provides trips and treats, putting smiles on young faces who live with disadvantage day in, day out, year in, year out.

Registered as a children’s charity in 2005, the team of 7 volunteers raise funds to buy seats for the pantomime, Christmas food hampers and days out.

Many Peacehaven children and their families have benefitted from visits to Peppa Pig World, Drusillas, Knockhatch, and The Palace Pier. They have also had the opportunity to meet Father Christmas on the Chichester Canal as they’ll as the Easter Bunny. The annual trip to Eastbourne’s pantomime is always a big hit and the Christmas food hampers are always gratefully received.

Newhaven, Lewes, & District Mencap

Newhaven, Lewes, & District Mencap have been supporting local people with learning disabilities since 1975. Support is provided for over 100 members and their families and volunteers. Their aim is to improve the quality of life of people with learning disabilities.

The name MENCAP is well established, but it is a little known fact that locally they have to be funded entirely from our own local fund raising activities. Kind donations are made by generous residents of the Newhaven, Peacehaven Seaford and Lewes. Also much effort is also put in by our volunteers who give their time to help the members, and to help organise events to raise much needed funds for them.
