The Annual Council meeting on 16th May 2023 marked the end of Cllr Lucy Symonds time as Mayor of Peacehaven and Chair of Council.

Lucy has had an exceptionally busy year as Mayor, and has led the Town through some historic and momentous occasions, not least of all the death of Her Late Majesty and subsequent Coronation of King Charles III.

When Lucy started her term as Mayor, she announced that she would focus on reducing isolation for all, increasing participation and inclusion – and creating more opportunities. There is little doubt that she has been successful in this, having hosted numerous events, from Wrestling and a Barn Dance through to Afternoon Tea and a Hot Chocolate evening – there’s been something for everyone.

Lucy has also been a champion for local groups, charities, and organisations; holding several networking events, attending dozens of awareness and fundraising events, and shining a light on the amazing voluntary work that goes on.

At the meeting on 16th May, Lucy gave a short speech and presented gifts to her Deputy Mayor, Consort, and was presented with the traditional past Mayors badge.

Cllr David Seabrook was then unanimously elected as Mayor of Peacehaven for 2023/24. Cllr Seabrook gave a short speech, and set out his priorities for his term as Mayor as:

  • Looking after People
  • Looking after the Planet
  • Ensuring Fair Shares

Cllr Isobel Sharkey was then also as Deputy Mayor, and Kathy Harding appointed as the Mayor’s Consort.

The Mayor’s role also includes supporting and raising money for their chosen charities, which this year will be:

  • Sussex Heart Charity
  • ABC Fund
  • Lewes District Mencap
