Leisure and Amenities
The Council own, manage and maintain several children’s play areas, recreational parks and sports facilities across the town. Centenary Park, Piddinghoe Avenue, opened in March 2015 as an exciting new destination park, delivered in partnership with the Big Parks Project and has on-site provision of a café, bespoke playgrounds, skatepark, sport facilities, cycle and walking paths and an ancient village reconstruction will soon be constructed (subject to funding), making this a unique park attracting visitors from around the area and is a gateway into the South Downs National Park. The existing sports facilities were modernised to create a multi use games area with floodlighting for tennis, netball and football, along with several other football pitches available. Planning and Highways
The Council make recommendations on around 150 planning applications a year, ranging from small extensions to major building developments.
Community Buildings
The Town Council operate two buildings that are used for a variety of activities. The biggest is Community House in the Meridian Centre which has a large main hall used for markets, parties, large meetings, theatre and cinema. It also has a number of smaller rooms used for meetings, etc. We also have the Hub Building at Centenary Park which has a main hall and sports changing facilities. Sports and Arts Development and Grant Aid
Numerous projects have been undertaken with the local schools to increase their understanding and appreciation of the arts. Projects have included working with professional artists and musicians, free live theatre performances and drama presentations. The Council also grant aid a number of local groups to ensure that they can continue to give a good service in the Town.
