A Celebration of Community: Mayor Aimee Harman’s Civic Service in Peacehaven

On 17th July 2026, Peacehaven's Community House buzzed with butterflies and camaraderie as the Town Mayor of Peacehaven Cllr. Aimee Harman hosted her civic service under the theme Gratitude and Connection.

The event drew a diverse crowd, including her fellow councillors, Deputy Mayor Cllr. Wendy Veck, local dignitaries including the Mayor of Brighton & Hove Cllr. Theresa Fowler, family, friends, local business owners and residents, all eager to celebrate the mayor’s contributions to the town.

Aimee, who has called Peacehaven home for 34 years, shared her journey as an artist and community member. Her deep connection to the town was evident as she recounted how she began by offering her mosaic art to the town on the A259 back in 1999. The evening unfolded with a picture show that illuminated her story against a backdrop of low lighting, flickering tea lights, and floral arrangements adorned with butterflies.

Seated barefoot in an original vintage British Pullman armchair, Aimee transported her audience through a nostalgic narrative filled with tales of roundabouts and Romans. Her twenty-minute presentation showcased stunning images, from the grandeur of Pullman carriages to behind the scenes of rare footage of her intricate and painstaking process of restoring the original mosaics that where evoked from  folk tales from past times .

The evening’s atmosphere was further enriched by the words of Lord Brett McLean from Hastings, who, upon taking the stand, declared it the best civic service he had attended in his 35 years of public service. He presented Mayor Harman with a pennant of friendship, a gesture symbolizing the bonds forged during the event.

The program also featured readings, a blessing, and a hymn led by the local vicar Rev. Jez Lowries, young aspiring singer Grace Kelly captivated the audience with her performances, while the Peacehaven Ukulele Group brought joy with their lively tunes. Friends and family shared heartfelt anecdotes about Aimee’s kindness and community spirit.

Guests were treated to a delightful afternoon tea, courtesy of Arlington Fleet Services from Eastleigh, complemented by a magnificent cake gifted by Libra Therapies in Peacehaven. The evening concluded with a moving Ghanaian poem and blessing delivered by the Mayor's consort, Judith Appiah Nti, leaving everyone with a sense of unity and hope.

Mayor Aimee Harman’s civic service not only celebrated her personal journey but also highlighted the strong sense of community that defines Peacehaven, making it an unforgettable evening for all in attendance.
