18th December 2025

At a meeting on 17th December with Chris Ward MP, local councillors and representatives of the residents’ association, Morrisons reaffirmed its commitment to the plans.
Morrisons apologised for delays and for the lack of communication with the community regarding the progress of the development, acknowledging the frustration caused to residents and local businesses.
The company explained that it has reviewed the proposed scheme to ensure it is financially viable in the current economic climate. Morrisons confirmed that it intends to submit a new planning application for the Meridian Centre redevelopment before the end of March 2026, with construction expected to begin as soon as possible thereafter, subject to planning approval.
A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: "We appreciate that the development of a new Morrisons for the residents of Peacehaven has taken a number of years to progress. We are pleased to reaffirm our commitment and renewed focus to delivering the scheme. We met yesterday with stakeholders including Chris Ward MP, local councillors and representatives from the residents association to share details of our updated plans. We hope to be in a position to submit a revised planning application in Q1 of 2026."
Chris Ward MP said: “Morrisons’ renewed commitment is the direct result of the overwhelming and determined campaign by the local community, which I was proud to work alongside.
"Residents have made it very clear that the current situation has been unacceptable, and that pressure has mattered. What matters now is delivery. We need to hold Morrisons’ feet to the fire to make sure these commitments are followed through. Peacehaven deserves a proper supermarket and a revitalised Meridian Centre, and I welcome Morrisons fronting up, apologising for the delays, and committing to getting on with the job."
