Friday 8th May: The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW II
We would very much like to encourage you all to still take part in the Nation’s Toast from the safety of your homes, to pay tribute to the many millions in the United Kingdom and overseas who sacrificed so much to secure the freedom we have today.
The Royal British Legion is calling on people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am , and to pause for a Two Minute Silence. We hope that you will also be able to support this important aspect of VE Day from home too.
We would invite you stand at 3pm and raise a glass or cup of refreshment of your choice and undertake the following toast:
“For those that gave so much, we thank you.”
This will be the first time such a tribute has ever taken place so please encourage others to join in from their own homes.
If you would like to share any photos showing how you celebrated this occasion please send them to us via:
civicandmarketing@peacehaventowncouncil.gov.uk
You may like to have afternoon tea in your garden, sing some war-time songs over the fence with your neighbours or just have a beer with your family.
Whatever you arrange please take into consideration Social Distancing.
We will keep you posted about the postponed pie & mash event once we're back to normal.
The Royal British Legion's Standard Bearer will be parading in his garden and our lovely Bugler, Melita Brett will be playing the LAST POST from her garden.
We're a community who love to join in and support one another, let's mark V E DAY by getting involved in the best way we can.
