Local Government Reorganisation: Petition Launched by Lewes District Council

14th July 2025

< Back to news

Lewes District Council has launched a petition in response to Brighton and Hove City Council's proposal to take over parts of the Lewes district, including Peacehaven, Telscombe, Newhaven Kingston and East Saltdean.

This proposal is part of the government’s Local Government Reorganisation initiative.

The petition is for people to sign if they wish to remain residents of Lewes district.

The petition can be found at: www.change.org/p/stop-brighton-hove-city-council-takeover-of-lewes-district

Peacehaven Town Council would like to assure residents that the Town Council passed a resolution requesting consultations with our residents regarding any proposed boundary changes. Details can be found at FULL-COUNCIL-MINUTES-24062025.pdf

Despite this resolution, we still urge you to sign the petition if you are in support of Peacehaven remaining within the Lewes district and not becoming part of Brighton and Hove.
