We would like to remind residents that A259 road repairs are in place this week.
ESCC Highways have provided the following information. There may be delays on your route between 8pm and 6am –
This surfacing scheme starts on 17th September. It is in two areas:
1.The first area of work is along the A259 Brighton Road, roughly between Links Avenue and Upper Valley Road starting on 17th for two days. This will be large patching works undertaken at night under convoy working. This permits traffic to flow in both directions but it is controlled one way at a time using a slow moving ‘convoy’ vehicle to control traffic speed. This is essential to provide safe working zone for the workforce and the public. The road will not be closed.
2.The second area of work is around the river/port/A26 fly over linking roads starting on 19th September (to 5th October) night works. Short sections of the slip roads, port access road and the end of the A26 will be closed on different nights with short diversions in and around the town. Closures are required because the roads are too narrow to permit traffic on them while we are working on them. The roads will be reopened to traffic during the day. The main A259 coast road will not be closed.
There has been close liaison with the port, the town and bus companies and they are fully aware of the works. Whilst there will be some disruption, the works will not stop bus services running and the A259 road will not be closed to through traffic but there will be local closures with short local diversions in and around the town.
