The club was founded in 1981. Our present membership of 38 Ladies and 53 Gentlemen includes both outdoor Lawn Green and indoor Short Mat members.
We are affiliated to Sussex County Bowls ( www.sussexcb.co.uk ) and through them to England Bowls ( www.bowlsengland.com ).
The pavilion was erected in 1986. A major extension was completed in 2016 to enable Short Mat bowls to be played indoors during the winter months. We now have excellent facilities including a bar, fitted kitchen, spacious changing rooms and full disabled facilities and equipment. In addition we have added a comfortable viewing terrace outside the pavilion from where the activities on the green can be watched in comfort.
The Bowls club welcome young and old, from 9 to 90+. Bowls is a game anyone can play and enjoy and is ideally suited to family groups.
Touring sides from all over the country visit us during the summer. We welcome them most warmly and can help arrange accommodation in Brighton and/or Eastbourne if necessary.
On the bowling side we have a team in Division 2 of the Brighton and Hove District League and the club is a significant force in the local Seahaven area Meridian League, so there is plenty of opportunity for competitive bowling.
The Bowls club are indebted to the Lottery Fund – Sport England, the House Project Centre, the Bruce Wake Charitable Trust and our own District and Town Councils who have enabled these extensive improvements.
The terrace was funded by an interest-free loan from Bowls England, cleared in two years by dedicated fund raising by our members.
The Bowls club are constantly seeking new members, from all sections of the community. Bowling is as much a social activity as a sporting one and to enforce this aspect there are several social functions arranged every year.
