Peacehaven Town Council’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Lighting in Celebration of HRH Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 Year Reign

To celebrate and commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, over 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories. In addition, for the first time, beacons will also be lit in each of the capital cities of the Commonwealth with the Principal Beacon being lit in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Peacehaven Town Council will be holding its Jubilee Beacon Lighting on Thursday 2nd June from 9.15 p.m. at the War Memorial, Meridian Park, Meridian Way, Peacehaven, BN10 8NF. The event will be hosted by the town’s new Mayor, supported by Jon Borthwick, Peacehaven’s Town Crier.

The invitation to this landmark event is to everyone in and around Peacehaven – come along and join in this special occasion to mark not only Her Majesty’s 70 year reign, but also to enjoy a unique event to start the very special Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations.

The official celebrations will begin earlier in the day at 2 p.m. when Peacehaven’s Town Crier will cry a special Jubilee Proclamation from The Palace at The War Memorial at 2 p.m.

In the evening, attendees at the Beacon Lighting will start arriving at 9.15 p.m. There will be a refreshment area with ‘Den & Mel’s’ selling delicious food and beverages.

In addition, there will be a Platinum Jubilee Stall selling The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Tarts, which are kindly being made by Wendy Veck. All proceeds from the sale of the Jubilee Tarts will be donated to the Mayor’s charities.

At 9:30 p.m., Peacehaven’s Town Crier will open the event and the town’s new Mayor will start the proceedings.

Bagpipes playing ‘Diu Regnare’ will resonate around the War Memorial, followed by the unforgettable sounds of a Bugler playing ‘Majesty’.

A song for the Commonwealth, ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ will be sung as a musical tribute to Her Majesty The Queen at 9:45 p.m., and in conjunction with all the UK town beacons, Peacehaven Town’s beacon will be lit, signalling the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee festivities.
